I moved to Alaska in 1999 from Austin Tx with 2 tech 1200's in a suitcase and a Eps Sampler.
I took a job as a live in care taker so I could save money to build my studio, label, and have quiet time to produce.
I hade my Tascam 688 shipped to me. Monitoring out of a Fender amp. My dude Ra let me borrow his Roland to sample some some sounds from.
After a few months of working as a live in care taker I was able to build up some the lab and step into the new world of computer recording. I built a pc, bought a tascam usb controller, built a little rack that had an ensonique protesus 2000, a eq, found a oberhiem drum machine for like $25 at a garage sale and was steady building my dj and digging collection
Not paying rent, working alot afforded me the financial freedom to steady build my dream in Alaska. I was able to afford to stack gear, do shows, perform and focus on building my sound.
In this pic I added a g4 mac, a tascam dm-1000 mixer, a few mics and started getting classy with the set up
The second stage of Jahsun. I quit as a care taker and began doing shows again. Performing my music, dj'ing, working on the Dirty MIcs shows and really trying to push Hip Hop in Alaska. I took all that I had sacrificed for and worked for to make it happen.
So after I quit live in care taking, I was back in the real world. I teamed up with this crazy Trinidadian ,Tracey Roscoe, and we got a place in Mt. View. Two mad rastas doing crazy shit! The last two years in Alaska was awesome! Lots of shows, performing, recording and making history!
I left Alaska in 2003 to attend recording school in AZ. After school I found myself back in The Region! Never a good time. I spent a dark, dismal time here for awhile.
I found myself needing to be alone again. I found this tiny lake cottage in Valpo Ind. Barley enough room for me and my records. Damn I loved this place! I would love to travel back in time! After a long stint working my ass off, I had my perfect place and didn't make one damn song there.
This place was 460 sq ft! I had more gear and records then living space! I had to keep shoes in the freezer
